Prohibition of Trade Act on Sunday – the position of the Chamber

08.09.2017

Can a ban on Sunday trading affect farmer’s work organization? It turns out that yes and that is significant. Especially in difficult seasons, when each hour in fieldwork counts. The Polish Chamber of Commerce of Agricultural Machines and Facilities is seeking to ensure that future regulations will not hace negative influence for the branch.

The Polish Chamber of Commerce of Agricultural Machines and Facilities, an industry representative of agricultural mechanization companies, has requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Parliament Labor Market Permanent Subcommittee to make an exception to allow for the purchase of agricultural machinery and equipment and spare parts from June to September also on Sundays and public holidays, without any restrictions.
If there is no change in approach, the farmer during the fieldwork (eg harvest) will not be able to buy on Sunday the spare parts. Of course, it concerns an emergency situations, which, as we know in the course of hard fieldwork, can happen also on Sunday. We fear that due to a ban on trade on Sundays and holidays, in the event of a machine failure, farmers will have to postpone the work and will have to wait for the service arrival by Monday? If the law does not take into consideration comments from the Polish Chamber of Commerce of Agricultural Machines and Facilities , unfortunately it may look like this.
